The 2021 spring grant cycle of the Pigeon River Fund of The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (CFWNC) is open for applications. The Pigeon River Fund seeks to improve the streams and rivers of Haywood, Buncombe and Madison counties.
Since 1996, the Pigeon River Fund has distributed more than $7.9 million in grants.
The Pigeon River Fund supports projects and activities that provide direct benefits in at least one of the following focus areas: improved surface water quality, enhanced fish and wildlife management and habitats, expanded public access, and increased citizens’ awareness about their roles in protecting resources.
Grants of $5,000 to $35,000 are available to nonprofit organizations and public agencies. The deadline to apply is March 15.
The Pigeon River Fund was established through an agreement between Carolina Power & Light (now Duke Energy) and the State of North Carolina.
CFWNC works with families, businesses and nonprofits to strengthen communities through the creation of charitable funds and strategic grant-making. A permanent charitable resource, the Foundation manages over 1,200 funds and facilitated $20 million in grants last year, bringing total giving to more than $276 million since its founding in 1978.
