A mum-of-two has shared her simple two-step trick to clean your reusable water bottle, and you can do it using pantry staples.

Carolina McCauley, from Perth, said through daily use, water bottles can easily end up filled with pathogens, which can build to unhealthy levels if you keep drinking from the bottle without cleaning it.

To clean your bottle, Carolina recommends you use water and white vinegar.

All you need is one cup of vinegar and some water, before soaking both the bottle and the lids for 10 minutes to clean away dirt, grime and any built-up pathogens (process pictured)

‘How to clean your bottles and make it smell fresh again,’ Carolina posted on TikTok.

‘Add one cup of vinegar to the bottle, fill the rest with water and soak the lids for 10 minutes.’

You should also leave your water bottle for 10 minutes to get rid of any dirt and grime, before rinsing the bottle well to make sure any leftover vinegar has been removed.

Thousands who saw the clip were impressed and said they would clean their own bottle immediately.

‘Great, I needed this,’ one woman wrote.

Others suggested other homemade formulas, including bicarb soda and boiling water or lemon, which can help to remove any dirt or grime.
